Our choir and organists are working hard to prepare beautiful music for the month of the December. Advent Lessons and Carols is a special, candlelit service that helps us enter into the holy season of Advent. This will take place on Sunday, November 28 at 4 PM. You will sing popular Advent hymns and hear choral works from all over the world, including music by Palestrina (Italy), Philip Moore and James MacMillan (UK), Healey Willan and Eleanor Daley (Canada), and André Thomas (US).
Each Sunday in Advent will feature a different ensemble from our music team. The first Sunday is led by our entire Cathedral Choir, while the second and third are led by our men and women, respectively.
Be sure to attend a special holiday concert entitled “A Celtic Christmas” on Saturday December 11 at 4 PM. You will be treated to the many talents of our Patrick Wedd Choral Scholars. They are putting together a meditative and enjoyable programme of carols featuring their own instruments: Celtic harp, viola, and natural horn. Please come support Esther-Ruth, Eva, and Simon!
The final Sunday of Advent will feature our professional octet in the morning and full choir in the afternoon. Join us for Christmas Carols by Candlelight on December 19 at 4 PM. Biblical stories and choral music will re-tell the story of Christ’s birth. Come sing your favourite Christmas carols and hear new ones. The choral music is mostly 20th and 21st century, and it comes from the US, UK, Germany, and Norway.
Our 8 PM French service on Christmas Eve will be led by a quartet, who will sing the ever-popular “Minuit chrétiens” (“O Holy Night”). The 10 PM service will be sung by the Cathedral Choir, and their beautiful music will surely put you in the Christmas spirit!
