In response to this time of crisis, our prize-winning Assistant Organist Nicholas Capozzoli has prepared a recital of music full of joy and hope. A selection of works from the 18th century to our own time shows how different composers portray uplifting messages—whether in Bach’s ecstatic counterpoint or the roar of God’s majestic voice from a local composer. Two organ transcriptions conclude this concert, the first being the final scene of Philip Glass’s Satyagraha. This opera centers around one of history’s most influential peacemakers: Mahatma Ghandi. Finally, a familiar favourite will hopefully appeal to a wider audience: a medley of music from the 1977 cinematic masterpiece, “Star Wars: A New Hope.”
