This is a highlight of the Christmas festivities. Forget about the turkey and the shopping for an hour or two and just allow yourself to feel the true joy of Christmas in our candlelit church.
I took a look at the calendar of other events and realised that it is going to be possible to spend almost every day in the cathedral during the next 3 weeks! Here’s how –
Holy Land Pilgrims share their experience Friday Dec 5, Monday Dec 8 and Friday Dec 12
Silent meditation Dec 9 at 5:45 , part of the programme of meditation sessions every Tuesday.
Poetry workshops led by Jeffrey Mackie Tuesday, Dec 9, at 7 pm in St Anselm’s Chapel and by Jan Jorgensen Thursdays, Dec 11 and 18 in the Chapter House. Jeffrey and Jan are putting together a session of poetry read by poets as on eof the activities for Nuit blanche
Hungry Minds : Bible study and supper for students and young adults every Wednesday from 6-9 pm. in the Undercroft. See Rhonda.
Pain, partage et prière on Dec 14 from 5 to 8 pm, the French sharing and bible study group.
Bake sale in the Baptistry after the 10 am service on Dec 14, to raise money for the Christmas vouchers handed out by the Social Service Society. Irene Broitman and Janet King are looking for volunteer bakers.
Forum will meet on Tuesday, Dec 16, as scheduled. There will not be much business beyond a chance to see the preliminary financial statement for 2014, so we are planning to have wine and mince pies and other Christmas goodies, followed by a showing of the half-hour film about the Cathedral at the end of the seventies made by professional film-maker, John Geeza. All congregation members are invited. Minutes and the agenda will be sent out next week.
Finally, something new during the 10 am Sunday Eucharist : During Communion, there is an opportunity for prayer with two members of the congregation. You might particularly want to thank God that day for something, or pray for something for yourself or for someone else. Please go to the side chapel after receiving Holy Communion and wait in line until the two prayer ministers invite you to join them.
May you face the Christmas season with tranquility
